The 2009 QMC All Tackle All Species Tournament

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

QMC was the major sponsor for the Surfers Paradise Game & Sport Fishing Club’s 2009 QMC All Tackle All Species Tournament held over the weekend of the 7th  and 8th  of March.
With Andrew the only one on board with any experience the QMC team did not do so well. Nonetheless, fishing out of the Boston Whaler 305 Conquest they all had a lot of fun.
After a massive struggle and a lot of assistance Neil landed a small Tuna which Andrew immediately threw back. Jamie Nani hooked a decent Wahoo that got away, but managed to land a Tuna which also went back, then Bryce landed a Dolphin Fish and another Tuna before they all retired to quieter waters to recover.
The rest of the Tournament was a great success as you can read in the Club Newsletter below.
Presentations were held at the tournament base, Southport Yacht Club, on Sunday evening.

QMC All Tackle All Species Tournament

Our annual Tournament was successfully staged on the weekend of the 7th and 8th March. The new venue of the Southport Yacht Club proved to be very popular with anglers, offering a great location, quality food, good marina in a raft-up style and friendly staff.
The 28 boats and 95 anglers were greeted by unusually good weather. With the Gold Coast experiencing a hot Black Marlin bite over the previous couple of weeks, expectations were high. However, the Blacks disappeared over the weekend, although the Blues had a bit of a chew, with several lost. Over the two fishing days, the fleet tagged 9 Blue Marlin (above left), 2 Black Marlin, 1 Shortbill Spearfish, 17 Mahi Mahi, 3 Wahoo, 8 Yellowfin Tuna (right), 31 Mackerel Tuna, 61 Striped Tuna and 1 Spotted Mackerel.
A big thank you is extended to all our sponsors, including the major sponsors for the Tournament: Queensland Marine Centre, Reelax and Deep Vee, and to the Southport Yacht Club. With the support of all sponsors, anglers and the Yacht Club, the Tournament raised a total of $2,500 for our favourite charity, Camp Quality, as well as ensuring our financial stability for the next year.
